The gardening year has all but ended and we're ready to enter winter, the annual time of rest for all gardeners. Predictably, this news section has met with neglect, particularly in the rush of fall, but now that things that have calmed down I've got a few photos to post. Here is a view of part of the gardens on July 30th, the day that we held a pot luck farewell party for Kelly, our intrepid volunteer:

And the beginnings of our orchard, which contains one Stella sweet cherry, one Stanley plum, one Reliance peach, and an Esopus Spitzenburg apple tree (this variety was Thomas Jefferson's favorite type of apple):
