Community Gardens Location

The Cambridge Community Gardens are located on Washington Street in Cambridge NY, about 100 yards from Hubbard Hall, at the site of the old Asgrow Seed Company trial gardens. Here is an aerial view of the site as it appeared in its undeveloped state:

The garden design and layout includes these features:

  • Rented plots, large enough to impact a household’s food budget
  • Shared plots where people can garden with others
  • Shared orchard and berry patches
  • A shared herb garden
  • Display flower beds
  • Walking paths and picnic area

Elements such as a childrens' garden, arbors, hummingbird garden, nature sanctuary, art and statuary, raised beds for the handicapped are possibilities for the future.

The intention is for the garden to create a community-oriented park-like environment. As the site is fairly large (about two acres), the garden will be developed over a number of years as interest and resources permit.
