The Cambridge Community Gardens were founded in the Spring of 2009, in the old Asgrow Seed Company trial gardens in Cambridge, New York. Our mission is to establish "a welcoming organic garden where we grow healthy food, create beauty, share knowledge, nurture relationships, and have fun".
If you are interested in gardening but don't have adequate sunny space, if you want to grow enough food to reduce your food budget, or if you need some help getting started as a gardener, the Cambridge Community Gardens may be of interest.
If you run a children's group, senior center, or food pantry, we can accommodate you as well, as participants at special events, for learning projects, or as recipients of surplus produce.
The Gardens include both shared garden space that creates a park-like atmosphere and private "victory garden" style garden plots. Families interested in gardening can become members for $10 for the year. Renting a private plot (which is optional) costs an additional $15 for 240 square feet and $25 for 600 square feet and 100 square foot corn shares are available for $10. These fees cover the cost of water, compost, and other materials and services necessary for the gardens.
Experienced gardeners will be available to help those new to gardening get started and to answer questions. We also hope to organize plant and seed swaps and other events to help new gardeners get started.
All members are asked to attend one of the organizational meetings and to put in 8 hours on the common areas of the garden over the course of the summer. There are 4 different days established during the spring, summer and fall when you can join in a community garden work day. See the "News" section for particular dates and times.
If you are interested in hearing about events at the gardens, plan to join as a member, or would be interested in special projects for children, seniors, or food pantries, please join the email list so you will receive our announcements.
The organizational meeting for this season will be held February 1st, 2016 at 7PM in the Lovejoy building behind Hubbard Hall. Attendance at this organizational meeting is strongly recommended for both returning and new members. Contact Bliss at 518-677-3151 if you cannot make it.
